apparently they played last night and it was not broadcast anywhere, hush hush. I didn't go, anyone know the best way to find out about these house shows in advance? http://64.233.169.132/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=ndG&q=cache%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fbrooklyndiy.blogspot.com%2F2008%2F11%2Ffort-112208.html&btnG=Search

I would love to see these guys, but really, what are the odds of a tour. Can someone name the last band that Aaron was in that actually toured outside of the state they were based in? Crybaby MacArthur, no, Harbinger, no, CBDS, no, Pinhead Gunpowder, no, Astrid Oto, no. Maybe not since Crimpshrine, ...that once, ...when they broke up half way through.

Playing secret shows in Brooklyn is great, but until these guys put some tunes out there - this project means about as much to me as some theme park I'll never visit. In the meantime, I'll hold my applause until I actually hear the band - Especially given Aaron's track record of starting multiple bands that lasted about 2 months and never went anywhere. As far as the content goes, I was hoping for more of a post-JTB Blake instead of a returns-to-his-roots Blake. I certainly can't tell anything from these youtube clips. I'm waiting on an album.. will there be one? I'm not saying Blake owes anyone anything, but the way the Jets went down felt like a big fuck you to all the fans to me. Just listened to this interview w/ Cometbus: http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/29377 He mentions around minute 47 that they are going to record this winter or early spring. I guess we can take that for what it's worth.

When I'm done with my thesis, I'll have a lot more time to devote to tracking the band down and going to a few of these shows for an eye-witness account. I live in Brooklyn, and honestly, my academic commitments are a piss-poor excuse for not having gone to any of these shows. Honestly, Jets and Jawbreaker mean more to me than Pakistan does.

Agreed. It's not like I feel he has to vindicate himself, or explain himself (which is a little redundant when following vindication, I admit,) to anyone, but something would have been better than nothing, obviously. I, too, was hoping for a post-Jets-esque sound or direction, but what I've heard is rather impressive and well-executed. I think when you have a project with Cometbus in it, you can only do as much as he can play along with. It's like he found a formula that worked for him after Crimpshrine, and just stuck with it. That's not meant to be a drop on Cometbus at all, but rather just a gathered notion that he's comfortable playing what he plays, and that's fine - it's good stuff. However, Blake is an extremely versatile player, and I feel that Aaron only brings so much to the table. You're only as dynamic as the creativity and skill of your fellow bandmates allow you (as a whole,) to be. I'm sure Blake wouldn't be playing anything he didn't want to play, though, so meh - what do I know? (Edited by Andon at 8:47 am on Nov. 25, 2008)

Personally, I am STOKED about B.S. "returning to his roots." I think JTB came to an end so suddenly because 1) Blake is probably moody as hell and not much of a people person (and he was in a band with people he didn't really know all that well before forming the band); and 2) he was surrounded by dorks in JTB. I bet it finally wore on him...

I just don't see thins as him "returning to his roots". The clips I've heard do not sound like Jawbreaker, it falls under the banner of "punk" more so than Jets did, but I am not hearing any backwards motion here. Blake's guitar work sounds more like Jets than Jawbreaker, just not quite so... boring. (Don't get me wrong I love Jets.) In 1996 Jawbreaker broke up, and at the same time the whole of what was the "punk" scene turned to shit. When Jets emerged in '98 it was right in line with what I was just starting to get into and find interesting. A welcome step away from all the Blink 182 shit that punk had become. But right now "punk" is more exciting than it's been in 15 years, even my jaded old man ass (don't let the name fool ya) finds it really exciting. And I couldn't be happier to see Blake back, and once again right in line with what I think is the most exciting stuff going on right now. I'm not quite sure what you guys were expecting as "post-JTB" but I keep imagining something that sounds more like Cub Country or something. I'm glad beyond words that that isn't what happened.
